Despite scaling back operations in Raleigh, Avelo Airlines is increasing its presence in Wilmington.
Avelo is downsizing its offerings at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport due to an overcrowded carrier marketplace, according to Trevor Yealy, Head of Network and Revenue.
Wilmington is still largely just served by legacy airlines to their hubs, with a select few exceptions.
The airline flew out of Wilmington International Airport for the first time in 2022 and established a base of operations onsite in April 2025.
Avelo remains committed to bringing low-cost service to Wilmington, targeting "unique markets" with untapped potential.
