Libya's Attorney General Orders Detention of Acting Education Minister

Libya’s Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, has ordered the detention of Ali Al-Abed, the Acting Minister of Education, pending investigation into alleged irregularities and negligence in the management of contracts for printing school textbooks.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, an inquiry into contracting procedures for schoolbook printing uncovered violations that harmed the public interest and infringed on the right to education.

The decision to detain Al-Abed was made pending further investigation into the alleged irregularities.
