Carrie Bickmore, a well-known broadcaster and dedicated cancer fundraiser, was honored as the 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria during a ceremony in Melbourne on November 6. This award recognizes her impactful work in brain cancer research and advocacy.

Dedication to Brain Cancer Research

Bickmore’s commitment to combating brain cancer is deeply personal. Since 2015, she has raised over $27 million to fund research efforts seeking a cure. Her work led to the creation of The Brain Cancer Centre in 2021, an innovative facility that brings together top researchers in the field.

Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among Australians under 40, a painful reality Bickmore knows well, having lost her husband, Greg, to the disease in 2010.
