Educators and Students Oppose Assault on Australian University Jobs
Educators and students have spoken out against the pro-business, militarist assault on Australian university jobs.
"At university, they push us to attract industry funds, and they do not encourage critical thinking in students. It shouldn't be about job training all the time!”
The Committee for Public Education (CFPE) and the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) held a public meeting to oppose mass job cuts at Australian universities and the broader assault on public education.
- 3,500 jobs have been destroyed at universities across the country over the past 10 months.
- Many more jobs are slated to be axed as part of the transformation of the sector.
The federal Labor government is spearheading this transformation, aiming to subordinate the education sector to the needs of corporations and the military.
