German Researchers Develop Innovative Method for Cultivated Meat

A new patent from the DWI – Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials describes a fibre-spinning method that could revolutionize the production of cultivated meat.

The method involves producing edible fibres containing living cells, allowing for the development of structure and tissue in one continuous step.

The invention combines cells, edible microcarriers, and a cross-linkable gel that are spun together through a core–shell nozzle.

According to lead researcher Rahman Omidinia Anarkoli, the cells grow inside the hollow fibres, aligning naturally along the length of each strand, similar to muscle tissue in nature.

The cultured fibres can be bundled to form structured, marbled pieces of meat, potentially transforming the future of cultivated meat.
