Joe Burgess Set to End Decade-Long England Wait After Squad Changes

England has announced a 19-man squad for the third and final Ashes Test against Australia at Headingley on Saturday, with two changes from the team that lost 14-4 in the second Test.

Head coach Shaun Wane revealed the squad ahead of the sold-out match in Leeds, with Hull KR winger Joe Burgess and Leeds Rhinos centre Harry Newman replacing Dom Young and Jake Wardle respectively.

After defeats of 26-6 and 14-4 in the first two Tests at Wembley and Hill Dickinson Stadium, England trail 2-0 in the series and are no longer able to win the Ashes.

“If both of these players take to the pitch, which seems probable, every member of England's 24-man squad this autumn will have participated in at least one of the three Tests.”

The home side will be playing only for pride, aiming to avoid a 3-0 whitewash on their own ground, while Australia has chosen to go full strength in an attempt to complete the sweep.

“Contrary to previous hints from their head coach Kevin Walters that they might not, the Kangaroos have opted to go full strength for the third and final Test.”

Squad Changes for Final Test

These direct replacements mark the final squad adjustments for England as they face Australia in the decisive match.

Author’s summary: England’s final Ashes Test squad includes two key changes, highlighting their effort to avoid a series whitewash on home soil despite already losing the series.
