A suspicious package containing white powder was delivered to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, causing multiple people to fall ill and some to be hospitalized, CNN reported on Thursday.
After the package was opened, a building on the base was evacuated as a precaution. A cordon was set up around the area, and reportedly several individuals were taken to the Malcolm Grove Medical Center on the base. The severity of their conditions has not been disclosed.

First responders at Joint Base Andrews concluded there was no immediate danger and handed over the scene to the Office of Special Investigations. An initial hazmat field test did not detect any hazardous substances, but the investigation is still ongoing, according to sources familiar with the case.
Joint Base Andrews is known as the home base for Air Force One, the aircraft used to transport the President of the United States.
