Three tomato sauces urgently recalled over fears they may cause 'fatal' botulism

Urgent Recall Issued for Three Tomato Sauces

First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Connecticut, has announced an immediate recall of three tomato-based pasta sauces due to a potential risk of Clostridium botulinum contamination, which can lead to fatal botulism poisoning.

Affected Products and Distribution

These products were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts through Big Y and possibly other retailers from September 22, 2025. All recalled jars have a use-by date of September 26.

Health Risks and Recommendations

"The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has said that the sauces were manufactured without an adequately evaluated production process to prevent the formation of the dangerous bacterium," reported the Independent.

Clostridium botulinum bacteria produce toxins that attack the nervous system, potentially causing paralysis and life-threatening illness.

Though no cases of illness have been reported yet, consumers are strongly advised to return the affected sauces to the place of purchase for a full refund.

About Botulism

Botulism results from toxins created by Clostridium botulinum, primarily when canned or acidified low-acid foods are improperly processed, leading to dangerous bacterial growth.

Consumer Action

Summary: Three popular tomato sauces from First and Last Bakery are recalled due to botulism risk; consumers should return products for refunds to avoid severe health dangers.
