Flags are flying in Faversham, but not the usual flimsy versions of the Union flag and the St George’s Cross. When these appear, the town’s “ninjas” come out at night to reclaim the streets with improvised tools created to remove flags.
The new flags are cheap knock-offs of the British Legion’s “Lest we forget” design. They were provocatively attached to lampposts around the town’s war memorial by Faversham’s increasingly fragmented and shrinking group of flag enthusiasts, clearly aiming to provoke the night-time “ninjas” into removing them.
These flags “were positioned by Faversham’s fast-diminished and faction-ridden collection of flag-shaggers to provoke the night-time ‘ninjas’ to remove them.”
Summary: The town of Faversham experiences a silent conflict over flag displays, as cheaply made imitation flags provoke local night-time groups into removing them.
