Carrie Bickmore Named 2026 Victorian Australian of the Year

Radio host and former television presenter Carrie Bickmore has been honored as the 2026 Victorian Australian of the Year for her major contributions to brain cancer research.

Since 2015, Bickmore has raised more than $27 million to support brain cancer research, inspired by the loss of her husband, Greg Lange, who passed away from the disease in 2010. Her efforts led to the creation of the Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer Foundation, which transformed how brain cancer research is funded in Australia.

In 2021, she advanced her advocacy by founding The Brain Cancer Centre—an organization connecting researchers and clinicians through collaborative trials and projects to improve treatment and survival rates for patients. The centre has since secured $45 million in additional funding for research across the country.

During an emotional ceremony in Melbourne, Bickmore expressed humility and gratitude for the honor, acknowledging the contributions of others working to make a difference.

“I feel like there are so many people, not only in the brain cancer space but in the world, that are doing incredible things. It made me deeply uncomfortable,” she said.
