Sombre Camilla lays down wooden cross ahead of Remembrance Day

Queen Camilla attended a solemn ceremony at Westminster Abbey's Field of Remembrance to honor fallen soldiers. The event, arranged by the Poppy Factory, featured 250 marked plots on the lawn of St Margaret's Church, each representing those who gave their lives in service.

As patron of the Poppy Factory, Her Majesty, 78, looked reflective during the commemoration. She wore a blue Fiona Clare dress and a red beret, a nod to the uniform of The Royal Lancers, the regiment where she serves as Colonel-in-Chief.

The occasion holds a personal resonance for the Queen, as her late father, Major Bruce Shand MC and Bar, served with the 12th Lancers in World War II and received the Military Cross for his bravery.

“Each November, visitors lay wooden remembrance crosses to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

During the service, Queen Camilla laid a wooden cross ahead of Armistice Day on 11 November. Attendees could also purchase their own crosses, available in various designs representing different faiths. She took time to speak with veterans, service members, and even petted a dog brought to the event.
