Animal Color Change: An Unresolved Mystery
Scientists are calling for more research to understand the role of environmental factors, such as exposure to chemicals, in anomalies like the white Iberian lynx in Spain.
Some animals, like chameleons, octopuses, cuttlefish, and snowshoe hares, change color naturally. However, the appearance of a white Iberian lynx, known as Satureja, in the mountains of Jaén, Spain, is surprising. Satureja has lost her natural brown and orange tones, but retained her unique black spots.
No one knows the reason for this striking change in coat color, which had already been observed in another lynx previously.
