Jonathan Zieroff, 30, is facing a charge of open murder after his girlfriend, Kelley LaLonde, died from injuries he allegedly inflicted on her in his Michigan home.
Zieroff had previously been charged with one count of felony assault with intent to murder over the attack on LaLonde, which left her with 52 individual wounds and spending months on life support.
LaLonde suffered from bleeding from her brain, among other injuries.
Zieroff may spend the rest of his life behind bars if convicted of the murder charge.
