Picture Book Sows Seeds of Community Outreach

Picture Book Inspires Community Outreach

A picture book, "When a Tree Falls" by Kirsten Pendreigh, has made a significant impact on Missouri environmental activist Tricia Falmer's mission.

Falmer was so inspired by the book that she donated 350 copies to children in her local school district, aiming to teach them about forest regeneration.

The book also helped Falmer hone her skills in advocating for the preservation of the woodlands in Ladue, Mo.

However, her efforts were put to the test when city officials ordered her to remove dead trees and limbs from her 1.82-acre property, citing a city ordinance that requires removal of anything that is 60% dead or dying.

Despite her advocacy, Falmer was overruled by the officials.

Author's summary: Picture book inspires environmental activist.
