Drummond stops Choctaw citizen's hunting ticket, calls Stitt a 'petulant lame duck'

Drummond Dismisses Hunting Citation for Choctaw Citizen

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has dismissed a misdemeanor citation against a Choctaw Nation citizen for hunting on state land without a state license.

Drummond stated that he will not prosecute tribal members for hunting and fishing under tribal law, even if they lack state licenses, as long as they are acting in accordance with tribal law.

Drummond's office wrote that he "will not allow Native American hunters to be prosecuted by the state for hunting in Indian Country without a state permit when they are otherwise acting in accord with duly enacted tribal law."

This decision may lead to litigation over the rights of Indians in eastern Oklahoma to hunt and fish across the Five Tribes' Indian Country reservations.

Drummond also criticized Gov. Stitt, calling him a 'petulant lame duck'.
