Albany County Jail to Ease Overcrowding at Animal Shelter

Albany County Jail will soon be home to 16 additional dog kennels as part of a unique partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

The humane society, which has 79 kennels, is consistently beyond capacity, according to CEO and President Ashley Bouck, who stated:

Between stray dogs, between cruelty cases, there’s just not enough space.

A project by Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple aims to address this issue. The idea was conceived years ago, following the creation of housing for homeless individuals at the jail, known as the Sheriff’s Homeless Improvement Program.
