City Council candidate Zohran Mamdani has been evasive about his stance on the ballot proposals, despite the potential loss of power for the City Council if they pass.
Mamdani's hesitation suggests that the City Council currently holds significant influence. At the second mayoral debate, he stated:
I'm appreciative that those measures will be on the ballot and that New Yorkers will be able to cast their votes for them.
His opponents, Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa, criticized him for his lack of clarity. Mamdani has since continued to decline to take a position, but has promised to announce one soon.
