Airports are gearing up for the holiday season amidst the ongoing government shutdown. According to Lauren Gonzales, Santa Barbara Airport Marketing Supervisor, larger airports are more likely to feel the effects of the shutdown.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) experienced temporary groundings of flights from Oakland to LA on Sunday due to staffing shortages. However, Santa Barbara Airport has not been impacted to the same extent. Gonzales stated,
"We really haven't seen much impact on operations at SBA luckily but we are keeping in close contact with our Federal partners to be in touch on any changes that they see on their end."
A government worker, who wished to remain anonymous, reported being delayed due to issues at other airports while traveling out of town.
