Saudi Railway Company and Ericsson Partner on 5G Technology
The Saudi Railway Company (SAR) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ericsson to trial 5G technology across its rail network.
Under the agreement, Ericsson will deploy equipment supporting enhanced communication, train control, and safety across SAR's lines. The partners plan to trial use cases including:
- Real-time video streaming
- IoT connectivity
- High-speed passenger broadband
The initial deployment will cover one of SAR's routes to assess performance under real-world conditions.
As part of the initiative, Ericsson and SAR will establish a dedicated innovation centre to trial and validate 5G applications, and introduce training programs to build local expertise.
The partnership aims to modernise operations and improve passenger connectivity.
