Proposed funding for farm-to-market roads nearly doubled in the 2026 budget process, from P16 billion in the National Expenditure Program to P32.6 billion in the General Appropriations Bill passed by the House of Representatives.
During the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) budget hearing, senators questioned the inclusion of P8 billion worth of farm-to-market roads in the proposed 2026 budget.
Sherwin Gatchalian said the amount is not part of the agency's master plan, warning that the funds could go unused or misaligned with actual agricultural needs.
Sens. are reviewing the budget.
