Toyota has revealed the ninth-generation Hilux, which it calls the “most Australian Hilux ever developed.” It is scheduled to hit Australian showrooms in just a few weeks.
Unlike the US-market Tacoma that switched to the GA-F platform in 2022, the new Hilux continues with the IMV platform used by the previous generation. The core cabin design remains mostly unchanged.
Toyota confirmed a fully electric Hilux arriving in 2026, with a hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) version scheduled for 2028.
No hybrid or plug-in hybrid models are currently planned but have not been ruled out.
The 2026 Toyota Hilux focuses on delivering what Australian buyers want, blending proven platforms and engines with mild-hybrid technology and paving the way for electric and hydrogen versions.
