The ninth-generation 2026 Toyota HiLux has been unveiled, featuring a fresh design and updated features aimed at maintaining its spot as a bestseller in Australia. Scheduled for sale next month, this model represents a significant facelift rather than a complete redesign.
Design and Styling
Developed by Toyota’s Australian design studio, the new HiLux is described as “the most Australian HiLux ever.” It follows a “digital sumo” design theme, resulting in a more aggressive appearance. Key exterior updates include:

Bodystyles and Powertrains
The 2026 HiLux is available in three body styles. Initially, only one drivetrain option is offered, but plans include expanding the range to electric power in 2026 and hydrogen fuel-cell technology by 2028.
Interior Upgrades
Inside, the HiLux features a completely redesigned dashboard that offers a more contemporary appearance and improved quality. This upgrade incorporates many components shared with other Toyota models, such as the LandCruiser Prado, and includes enhanced technology availability.
Performance
All 2026 HiLux models retain the previous generation’s 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. Output remains at 150kW and 500Nm for the six-speed automatic version, while the six-speed manual offers 150kW and 420Nm.
