Intel is reportedly developing a new Bartlett Lake-S desktop processor featuring 12 Performance Cores (P-Cores) with an impressive boost clock speed of up to 6GHz. This chip would stand out by focusing solely on P-Cores without including Efficiency Cores (E-Cores), potentially making it a powerful option for gaming.
Traditionally, Intel desktop processors with hybrid architecture included both P-Cores and E-Cores, with the maximum number of P-Cores capped at eight, even on flagship models like the Core i9 14900KS. The Bartlett Lake-S’s addition of four extra P-Cores in place of 16 E-Cores marks a significant shift in design.
Removing E-Cores may reduce multitasking efficiency, but the increase in P-Cores could result in better gaming performance due to higher single-thread power.
Intel tech leaker @jaykihn0 on X stated: "The flagship Bartlett Lake-S model will have 12 P-Cores and a top 6GHz boost clock."
Despite the focus on P-Cores and high clock speeds, Intel’s documentation suggests Bartlett Lake-S is intended primarily for edge computing applications rather than gaming.
This new Bartlett Lake-S CPU could redefine Intel’s desktop lineup by maximizing P-Cores and clock speeds, potentially enhancing gaming, though Intel envisions it for edge computing tasks.
