Lucy Liu Debuts Her Shortest Haircut in Years

Lucy Liu has embraced a fresh look with a lob haircut, debuting it while starring in the upcoming drama Rosemead. The Charlie's Angels alum appears with a short, side-part style just above her collarbone in the film’s trailer.

About the Film Rosemead

Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The story follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they cope with Joe’s schizophrenia diagnosis.

The film is inspired by a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."

Lucy Liu’s Role and Perspective

This role represents a shift from Liu’s usual lighthearted, action-oriented characters seen in series and films like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.

“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”

At the film's Tribeca premiere, Liu also discussed her interest in Rosemead and similar projects during an interview with Parade.

Summary

Lucy Liu’s new haircut signals a fresh chapter as she takes on a complex role in Rosemead, a gripping drama exploring mental illness and family dynamics.
