Anemone, marking Daniel Day-Lewis' first film in eight years, has finally arrived in cinemas after much anticipation. This project is co-written by the acclaimed actor and his son, director Ronan Day-Lewis.
The story begins with Jem Stoker (Sean Bean, known from Game of Thrones) solemnly praying for strength before bidding farewell to his wife, Nessa (Oscar-nominee Samantha Morton, featured in In America), and speeding away on a motorbike. His journey leads him to an isolated shack in the woods of Yorkshire, where his older, reclusive brother Ray (Daniel Day-Lewis) resides. The siblings have been estranged for 20 years.
Their reunion is cold and filled with long, tense silences. Over the film’s two-hour duration, the reasons behind Jem’s visit and Ray’s self-imposed exile gradually come to light.
Anemone blends elements of family drama, thriller, and horror, maintaining a deliberate pace that carefully unpacks the characters’ motivations and plot details.
“Anemone has such a strong command of tone right from the jump, combining mystery, dread, and suspense throughout.”
