'Wicked: For Good' Teases Its Two Major New Songs

'Wicked: For Good' Reveals Two New Major Songs

During the live show Wicked: One Wonderful Night, previews of two new songs for Glinda and Elphaba were unveiled. These additions are part of the Wicked: For Good project, which expands the second act of the beloved musical and adapts it into a feature film.

New Songs by Stephen Schwartz

The two brand-new songs, composed by Stephen Schwartz, had been briefly teased in promotional trailers. The live broadcast on NBC provided extended previews that also hinted at their role in the film's story.

“The Girl in a Bubble”

Sung by Ariana Grande as Glinda, this song is set during an evening at Glinda’s lavish Emerald City headquarters. It expresses Glinda’s mournful reflection on having achieved everything she ever wanted through the influence of Madame Morrible and the Wizard, following the original story.

“No Place Like Home”

Performed by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, this contemplative song shows Elphaba’s sorrow as she reflects on her love for Oz, a land that now despises her as the “Wicked Witch of the West.”

“The Girl in the Bubble” sets the song during a night at Glinda’s lavish headquarters in the Emerald City, as she mournfully rues getting everything she’s wanted in life since she was a child now that she’s “Glinda the Good” at the behest of Madame Morrible and the Wizard’s design after the first movie.

“No Place Like Home” sees Elphaba likewise contemplatively sorrowful, as she reflects on loving the land of Oz that has been made to despise her as the “Wicked Witch of the West.”

Author's summary: The new Stephen Schwartz songs deepen the emotional journeys of Glinda and Elphaba, adding fresh layers to the Wicked: For Good adaptation.
