Wicked: For Good introduces two original songs alongside the familiar tracks from the second act of the Broadway musical. These new additions deepen the audience’s understanding of Elphaba and Glinda’s stories.
The second part of the movie musical picks up where the Broadway show left off, with Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) singing “Defying Gravity” after discovering that the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) is a fraud. The film not only continues their journey but also expands it through new music.
“Both witches are trying to find their way home. Both of these songs are about how to do that, and it’s questions that I’ve always wanted to hear from them in the stage show, but never got to. We get to take our time and explore those questions.” – Director Jon M. Chu, September 2025
Stephen Schwartz, the composer of the original Broadway musical, wrote both songs. Fans were given an early glimpse of these new songs during the Wicked: One Wonderful Night NBC special before the November 2025 premiere of Wicked: For Good.
Two new original songs in Wicked: For Good offer fresh insight into Elphaba and Glinda’s quests for belonging, enhancing the musical’s emotional depth.
