Shaan Sharma, who plays Shmuel on THE CHOSEN, describes his role as “a real blessing” despite never intending to become an actor.
Sharma initially pursued a career as a singer-songwriter in Minneapolis-St. Paul for about ten years before moving to Los Angeles. Acting started as a side activity supporting his music career in Minnesota but became his primary focus after relocating to LA.
In THE CHOSEN, Sharma portrays Shmuel, a Pharisee, whom he describes as “a very distinct, relatable character.”
“Because we all have a little bit of it in us at times where we can think we’re so right about something that it makes us blind to the truth that may be right in front of our eyes.”
He explains that Shmuel serves as a cautionary figure, reminding people not to discard their upbringing without reason but also to remain open to new truths.
“For me, [acting is] just about experiencing the wonderful variety of life…it’s a real blessing.”
Besides acting, Sharma is also the founder of the podcast Table Read, which helps aspiring screenwriters by having their scripts read aloud.
Author’s summary: Shaan Sharma finds his role in THE CHOSEN deeply meaningful, highlighting the importance of open-mindedness and embracing life’s diversity through acting.
