Player-manager Ben Greenhalgh believes Isthmian South East side Margate is ready to convert their strong performances into more victories soon. Despite finishing last term as play-off semi-finalists, Margate currently sits ninth in the league after 15 games.
“We’ve changed the mentality in the group because the performances are there. It’s no good being terrible and winning games at the start of the season because, after a while, those terrible performances will crop up again.”
“We have had a good month - nearly a good two months - in terms of the way we’re playing. But we have drawn too many games. With a draw, you don’t lose and you can try to look at the positives that way. But the sad reality is a draw isn’t half as good as a win.”
Greenhalgh emphasized the need to secure more wins in the remaining 15 games to improve their standing.
Greenhalgh opened the scoring for Margate in the 14th minute against Crowborough. The home team responded with goals in each half, the second coming directly from a corner. However, Greenhalgh scored again in the 86th minute to secure a draw for Margate.
Author's summary: Ben Greenhalgh is optimistic that Margate's improved mindset and consistent performances will soon translate into more wins despite their current run of draws.
