The Royal Thai Navy has intensified its water safety operations and opened rescue centres along the Chao Phraya River to protect the public during the Loy Krathong festival held on November 5, 2025. The initiative focuses on ensuring smooth and safe celebrations near waterways and crowded locations nationwide.
According to Lt JG Priyada Buasomboon, Assistant Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, all naval units have been directed to step up surveillance and assist local authorities during the festivities.
“These measures aim to allow people to enjoy the festival safely while remaining alert to possible water-related hazards,” said Lt JG Priyada Buasomboon.
In Bangkok, the Royal Thai Fleet’s Riverine Squadron has established a Water Rescue Coordination Centre covering an 82-kilometre stretch of the Chao Phraya River, from Nonthaburi Bridge down to the river mouth. The centre began operations on November 5 at 5:00 p.m.
Rescue teams, vessels, ambulances, and safety equipment are on constant standby to respond to emergencies quickly. Members of the public can reach the Royal Thai Navy Water Rescue Centre through the hotline 1696.
