Lee County leaders urge more law enforcement presence on Burnt Store Road after a fatal crash that resulted in three deaths. Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass highlighted the growing number of accidents in a letter to the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Cape Coral Police Department.
"And like they said before, some people, they drive crazy," said Bosko Ilijevski, a Cape Coral neighbor.
"It seems like everybody goes real fast, and they expect you to sort of keep up the pace," said Charlie Ott, another Cape Coral resident.
Commissioner Pendergrass stressed the importance of more patrols to warn drivers and reduce dangerous driving behaviors.
"We're trying to make people aware of the surroundings and make sure they follow the wall, drive safely, and do not pass in no passing zones," said Pendergrass.
Pendergrass noted similar safety problems on other roads in the county:
He pointed out ongoing issues with speeding and drivers ignoring traffic laws.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) confirmed active patrols on the two-lane section of Burnt Store Road. The efforts include collaboration with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and the Cape Coral Police Department.
