The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols on Saturday evening to ensure road safety and reduce impaired driving incidents.
Officers will be on duty from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., focusing on drivers suspected of operating vehicles under the influence.
Police emphasized that impairment is not only caused by alcohol but may also result from certain prescription and over-the-counter medications.
In addition, although marijuana use is legal in California, driving under its influence remains prohibited.
Fresno Police stated, "Those arrested for a first-time DUI could face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license."
This enforcement initiative is supported by the California Office of Traffic Safety in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Summary: Fresno police will conduct extensive DUI patrols Saturday night to curb impaired driving, stressing that legal or prescription substances can impair driving ability and lead to severe penalties.
