By Marie Symington, Rome (Agenzia Fides) - Saint John Henry Newman was recently proclaimed a Doctor of the Church and named Patron Saint of the Pontifical Urbaniana University, part of the Dicastery for Evangelization.
As both a Doctor of the Church and Patron Saint of a missionary university, Newman exemplified these roles through his lifelong commitment to Truth. His journey began as a devoted Anglican at the University of Oxford and continued after his conversion to Catholicism in 1845.
The pursuit of Truth inspired Newman personally and remains central to the Church's mission to proclaim the Gospel worldwide.
