Fog Turns to Snowfall in Calgary

Friday morning in Calgary began with thick fog but soon transformed into light snowfall. Fortunately, the snow is not expected to stay long, according to weather forecasts.

Weather Transition

Snow began falling in downtown Calgary around 8:30 a.m., as flakes moved southward from the northern parts of the city. Early fog prompted an advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) due to reduced visibility and warnings of possible rain, snow, or even freezing rain.

Meteorologist's Observation

“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,” explained Kevin Stanfield, meteorologist at 660 NewsRadio.
“Our high today hits 3°C, so any area that caught a new coat will likely see that melt off too.”
