The Boston Bruins secured a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators Thursday night at TD Garden. Pavel Zacha scored the winning goal with just 5.5 seconds remaining in overtime, finishing a play started by Charlie McAvoy.
Zacha’s goal was his fourth of the season, resulting from McAvoy’s skillful maneuvering in overtime. The Bruins defenseman used his speed and ability to create a two-on-one situation that led to the winning play.
“Charlie made a hell of a play,” said Bruins coach Marco Sturm. “For big win.”
“He’s a great skater and he beat his guy and made it a two-on-one and then he made a great play,” said Zacha. “So, I think that’s something in overtime that he used his skill and took over.”
Zacha noted the previous heavy loss motivated the team to perform better. “We had a bad game there and lost pretty badly, so I think before the game we were motivated to give it back and I’m happy that we won.”
The Bruins improved their record to 9-7 following this victory.
