AFLW: Biddell reflects on road to 75 games as Crows eye finals success

AFLW: Chelsea Biddell Reflects on Her Journey to 75 Games

Adelaide defender Chelsea Biddell will reach her 75th AFLW game this Sunday in the Crows’ elimination final against St Kilda. At 27, Biddell has grown into a leadership role, a quality that did not come naturally at first but developed through years of dedication.

Embracing Leadership

Being voted into the Crows' leadership group for the first time this season was a milestone for Biddell, symbolizing her quiet growth and hard work over the years.

“That was pretty special to be announced as part of the leadership group this year, especially to be voted in by your peers, it’s very nice,” Biddell said.

She explains how leadership involved more than just on-field performance, requiring her to develop a stronger voice and better communication skills.

“(Leadership) has been something I’ve been working on over the years, when I started to get games consistently, it was then being able to bring others along with me. I had to work really hard on that part of my game, especially when I started to become one of the more experienced players. In terms of on the field, I’m not really the loudest person, so I think it was just (developing) that voice and communication that I really had to build on.”

A Challenging Path to 75 Games

Biddell’s journey was not straightforward. Originally drafted as a forward in the 2019 AFLW Draft, she struggled to secure a regular spot in a strong Crows lineup.

Her breakthrough came after switching from the forward line to defense in 2022, where she established herself as a key player in the team's backline.

Summary

Chelsea Biddell’s progress to 75 games reflects her resilience and growth, evolving from a marginal forward into a core defensive leader for Adelaide.
