The Illawarra Hawks continued their climb in the NBL standings thanks to a combination of standout performances on the road. They secured a 107-90 victory over the Cairns Taipans at the Cairns Convention Centre.
"Our performance was really strong, especially coming off Wednesday playing at a high level and we didn't want to drop that intensity," said Hawks coach Justin Tatum. "We understand that Cairns is short-manned and our mentality was to keep coming and putting pressure on them as much as we can, and I loved the effort the guys came out and played with."
"They found ways to dominate and score in the paint and make it tough for Cairns."
Fresh from his career-best game of 37 points and 14 rebounds in the Hawks’ recent home victory, McGee maintained his strong presence in the paint to help secure this important win.
The Taipans ended their losing streak in Tasmania last Saturday but faced challenges containing the Hawks’ trio on Friday night.
Summary: The Illawarra Hawks demonstrated resilience and teamwork through a triple-double, sharp shooting, and interior strength to claim a confident road victory and continue their championship push.
