Award-winning actor Ethan Hawke’s first visit to Miami was unlike a typical tourist experience. Instead of heading straight to the beach—though that is on his list—Hawke arrived on the red carpet dressed in an espresso brown suit and crimson glasses.
At this year's Miami Film Festival GEMs, held at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, Hawke received the Virtuoso Award, recognizing his accomplishments throughout his three-decade career in the film industry. The award presentation included a conversation with journalist Ramin Setoodeh, hosted by Variety.
“You just want another chance to keep playing. I’m most interested in what I’m going to do tomorrow,” Hawke said.
Despite the honor, Hawke treats this award not as just another trophy but as motivation to continue pursuing his craft.
Hawke's debut role was as Ben Crandall in the film Explorers. At 14, he felt discouraged after the movie’s reception and struggled to believe the praise he later received for his role in Dead Poets Society. Today, he views his career with a more positive and appreciative outlook.
“It’s not every day that someone truly appreciates and is still passionate about their career decades into doing it,” the actor noted, highlighting his continuous inspiration from people and life around him.
Hawke’s dedication to his art remains strong, fueled by constant inspiration from his surroundings.
