A new country will formally join the Abraham Accords, the normalization deals between Israel and several Muslim-majority nations, announced US President Donald Trump’s special envoy on Thursday, Anadolu reports.
Steve Witkoff, the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, did not reveal which country would be joining but said the announcement would come Thursday evening at an event in Washington.
“I’m flying back to Washington tonight because we’re going to announce tonight, another country coming into the Abraham Accords,” Witkoff said during a business forum in Miami, Florida.
President Trump is scheduled to host leaders of five Central Asian countries—Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan—at the White House Thursday evening. It remains unclear if the announcement will be made during this dinner, but the President is expected to be present for any major statement.
The Abraham Accords were originally signed during President Trump’s first term to establish normalization between Israel and several Muslim-majority countries.
Former EU envoy urged Brussels to maintain sanctions threat against Israel.
