Ethan Hawke is still cherishing the experience of collaborating with Taylor Swift. During his first visit to Miami on November 2, he received the Miami Film Festival’s Variety Virtuoso Award and reflected on his long career in an interview with Variety co–editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh.
Hawke spoke fondly about working with Hollywood legends like Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ben Stiller, and Julia Stiles. However, he visibly brightened when talking about reuniting with his “Dead Poets Society” co-star Josh Charles for Swift’s music video Fortnite, featuring Post Malone.
The project was written and directed by Taylor Swift and came about thanks to Hawke’s daughter, Maya Hawke. He shared the story of how it started:
“My daughter is creating opportunities in my life. I get a text from my daughter saying ‘Hey dad, Taylor Swift wants your number.’ So I guess they met. And anyway, Taylor Swift is a ‘Dead Poet’s Society’ fan, and so, hell, I’ll take what I can get.”
He could not hide his admiration for Swift’s creative power, saying:
“That woman is incredible. She’s a force of nature.”
This praise came as Taylor Swift made waves with a fresh version of her No. 1 hit from The Life of a Showgirl.
Ethan Hawke fondly recalls working with Taylor Swift, praising her as a creative force and highlighting how his daughter Maya helped connect them for a memorable project.
