Two key Socceroos have returned for the upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia, as a young rising star joins the national team for the first time. James Overy, a 17-year-old from Manchester United, has earned his maiden senior call-up.
Veteran players Jackson Irvine and Riley McGree have also been selected after recovering from injuries. Australia will meet Venezuela on November 15 in Houston, Texas, and then face Colombia on November 19 in Queens, New York.
Overy headlines 11 new inclusions in coach Tony Popovic’s latest squad. The energetic right-back, born in Perth, turns 18 this weekend and recently impressed for the Young Socceroos at the U20 World Cup. His performances sealed his place among the national team hopefuls.

Coach Tony Popovic has suggested he intends to explore a broad selection pool as injuries have limited his options. Absences due to injury include Alessandro Circati, Jordy Bos, Jacob Italiano, and Aziz Behich.
Irvine and McGree make long-awaited returns from foot injuries, while Adelaide United captain Craig Goodwin also rejoins the squad as the sole A-League Men representative.
“We continue to expand the squad’s depth and reward emerging talent,” said Socceroos coach Tony Popovic.
