Matt Jeneroux, a Conservative MP from Edmonton, has declared his intention to resign from the House of Commons. This move comes shortly after Chris d'Entremont crossed the floor to join the Liberals, sparking speculation about Jeneroux's future political alignment.
Jeneroux's resignation could strengthen the Liberals' position in passing their budget without needing support from opposition parties. Losing any of the three critical budget votes would force another election.
“He wanted one last opportunity to address the House,” said Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, who also indicated via a post on X that Jeneroux plans to resign in the spring.
It remains unclear when exactly Jeneroux will officially leave his seat or how he will vote on upcoming budget motions. The next key vote on the Bloc amendment is expected on Friday, followed by the main budget motion later in November.
Jeneroux's departure slightly reduces Conservative strength in the House of Commons at a critical legislative moment.
Matt Jeneroux’s upcoming resignation could ease the Liberals’ path to pass the budget, altering the balance of power in the House during a pivotal period.
