Georgia Southern secured their first road win of the season on Thursday, defeating App State 25-23 in the intense “Deeper Than Hate” rivalry game.
Quarterback JC French IV led the charge with 352 passing yards, his season-high performance. He threw one touchdown and ran for another in the second half.
“The O-line did an amazing job today protecting me and the receivers making plays. I probably could have had 450 if I just put it on the money.”
Running back OJ Arnold contributed 105 rushing yards, delivering crucial runs in the closing minutes that sealed the game for the Eagles.
The Eagles limited the Sun Belt’s leading rusher, Rashod Dubinion, to only 40 yards on 12 carries. Overall, the defense allowed just 77 rushing yards — their best performance against the run this season.
Freshman kicker Tripp Bryant played a decisive role, converting four of five field goal attempts from 21, 26, 23, and 24 yards. His final make early in the fourth quarter extended Georgia Southern’s lead to 25-16.
His poise under pressure and consistent accuracy proved vital on a cold night in hostile territory.
With this victory, Georgia Southern improved to 4-5 and stands two wins away from securing another bowl game appearance.
