Alberta Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux Resigns Amid Party Speculation

Conservative Member of Parliament Matt Jeneroux has announced that he is resigning from his position in the House of Commons, relinquishing his duties as the representative for Edmonton–Riverbend. The announcement came Thursday through a letter shared on social media, amid growing discussions about his political future. It follows shortly after another Conservative MP made news for crossing the floor to a different party.

“I ran in the last election hopeful that Canadians would put their faith in a team led by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives,” Jeneroux wrote in his letter. “Although the outcome was not what I anticipated, I have great admiration for the many remarkable individuals who were elected to the House of Commons on both sides of the aisle.”

He emphasized that his immediate attention will now turn to his family and the responsibilities that come with that commitment.

Jeneroux did not specify an exact resignation date. However, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre responded online, hinting that Jeneroux intends to remain in office until the spring of 2026.

“On behalf of our Conservative team, I wish you and your family all the best following your decision to step down as MP next spring,” Poilievre wrote.

Since first being elected in 2015, Jeneroux has represented Edmonton–Riverbend and served in several shadow cabinet positions, including health, housing, and infrastructure.
