Calgary police arrest 20 in downtown enforcement blitz

Calgary Police Launch Downtown Enforcement Blitz

On Wednesday, dozens of Calgary police officers, transit peace officers, and social agency workers concentrated their efforts in the city's downtown core. The operation, named “Operation Order,” marks Police Chief Katie McLellan’s first major public initiative since assuming office earlier this year.

Operation Order Objectives and Scope

Chief McLellan addressed the media with a firm statement:

“Enough is enough.”
The enforcement blitz aims to tackle crime and social disorder in key areas such as East Village, Stephen Avenue, and Century Gardens. It is part of the larger “Safer Calgary” initiative.

Results by Mid-Afternoon

One of the early citations was given to Grant Robinson for littering by discarding a cigarette butt. He commented,

“This is gonna stop me from probably another month because I have to pay it. I won’t be able to save money because I have to give the government money.”

On-the-Ground Enforcement

Reporters accompanied officers during patrols of back alleys and transit platforms to witness the enforcement in action.

Chief McLellan’s coordinated approach reflects a strong stance to restore safety and order in Calgary’s urban core.
