A former Los Angeles Angels clubhouse attendant testified that it was widely known within the team that Eric Kay, a communications staffer, struggled with drug addiction before pitcher Tyler Skaggs’ fatal overdose.
Despite these claims, Constanti acknowledged never personally seeing Kay take drugs or reporting these suspicions to the organization.
Angels employees working with Kay have denied knowledge of his opioid addiction or involvement in distributing illicit pills to players, including Skaggs.
“Kay admit[ted] to being high on Norco while at the ballpark,” testified a former clubhouse attendant.
Attorneys representing Skaggs’ family and Kay’s ex-wife argue team officials were aware of Kay’s drug use and his connection to Skaggs prior to the pitcher’s death in 2019.
The Angels’ lawyer described Constanti as a resentful former employee upset over his dismissal after more than ten years with the team.
The testimony occurred during the ongoing wrongful death trial against the Los Angeles Angels organization.
Summary: Multiple testimonies suggest Eric Kay’s drug problems were known within the Angels organization well before Tyler Skaggs’ death, though official acknowledgment and action remain disputed.
