The iconic Muppet diva, Miss Piggy, is set to receive a feature film treatment at Disney. The project is backed by Oscar-winning actresses Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone as producers, with a script penned by Tony-winning multi-hyphenate Cole Escola.
Disney, owner of the Muppets franchise, is developing the movie. According to Variety, Lawrence and Stone are not only producing but may also star in the film.
“I don’t know if I can announce this but I am just going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it,” Lawrence shared on the Las Culturistas podcast hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.
When asked if they would co-star, Lawrence replied playfully:
“I think so. We have to … It’s fucked up [that we haven’t done a movie together].”
Lawrence also mentioned her interest in Cole Escola’s work, revealing she considered a Broadway debut in Oh, Mary!, a historical farce that has featured actors like Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess in the role of Mary Todd Lincoln.
Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are producing a Miss Piggy movie for Disney with a script by Cole Escola, showing strong potential for both behind and in front of the camera collaboration.
