ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania shared the latest steps for Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James as he prepares to make his return this season.
LeBron James, 40, has not played this season due to ongoing recovery from sciatica affecting his right side. He is approaching his unprecedented 23rd NBA season with a careful, methodical rehabilitation plan.
The Lakers have maintained strong performance despite the absence of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, keeping their playoff hopes alive as James moves closer to returning.
During an appearance on ESPN's NBA Today, Shams Charania outlined James’ progression to competitive action.
"LeBron James has been working out individually, and I'm told that the next step for him is 5-on-5 live play," Charania explained.
James will not travel with the team on the upcoming five-game road trip starting in Atlanta. It remains uncertain whether he will participate in live action during this stretch, possibly with the G League South Bay team, or if the Lakers will wait until the team returns on November 16 to begin full live play sessions.
"The timeline of this 5-on-5 play is still in question," Charania added.
Author's summary: LeBron James is nearing a return with planned 5-on-5 workouts, but his full comeback timeline remains uncertain as he continues recovering from sciatica.
