Bell: Calgary police lay down the law to the lawless — a welcome sight

Calgary Police Crack Down on Downtown Crime

Calgary police have intensified their efforts to restore safety and order in the city’s downtown core. The initiative is being led by the city’s uncompromising police chief, Katie McLellan, who has repeatedly emphasized the need to confront crime and social disorder head-on.

“This city has to get serious about the crime and social disorder in this city,” said McLellan.

As part of this strategy, 100 officers have been deployed to the East Village as part of an operation called Operation Order. The officers are targeting key areas and known trouble zones where their presence offers reassurance to residents and workers, while simultaneously addressing criminal activity and helping vulnerable individuals on the streets.

The increased patrols aim to demonstrate a strong commitment to public safety and to make visible progress in reclaiming the downtown for law-abiding citizens.
