Aimee Lou Wood opened up about how embodying her character Chelsea in the HBO hit series The White Lotus helped her face body dysmorphia she struggled with during filming. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, the 31-year-old actress shared her experience candidly.
Wood revealed that filming scenes in a bikini triggered body dysmorphia she had encountered as a teenager. According to the Mayo Clinic, body dysmorphia is a mental health condition where a person is unable to stop focusing on perceived flaws in their appearance.
"I shook myself out of it by thinking, 'It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does,'" Wood told Harper's Bazaar.
This mindset allowed Wood to gain confidence by separating herself from her real-life insecurities and fully stepping into Chelsea's persona.
Although Wood admits she often needs some time to transition out of her characters, she ultimately appreciates the growth and insights gained through her roles.
